Custom Socket Set Features

Custom Socket SetThose in the aerospace industry use a custom socket set screw for fastening. Its main feature is its headless design. Its typical use is it to secure an object within or against another object. Hence, fastening! However, there is no head projecting past the end of the screw thread. These set screws are threaded with a wrenching tool. There is a nice range of point styles in the design, too, which is a nice perk of the custom socket set.

The use of a socket set screw is pretty straight forward. Each screw has a head and a thread. The thread extends all the eay to the head. A blind set screw is almost always driven with an internal-wrenching drive, such as a hex socket (Allen), star (Torx), square socket (Robertson), or slot. The set screw passes through a threaded hole in the outer object and then tightened against the inner object. This prevents it from moving relative to the outer object.

An example of its use is with a pulley. You screw it into a pulley hub so that its end-point bears firmly against the shaft. The fastening action is by friction between the screw and the shaft. You will typically see some amount of elastic or plastic deformation of one or both screws. This durability makes it great for many military and aerospace applications.
